The South West coast path, embroidered

There are just a few days left to catch the exhibition by the West Country Embroiderers in Truro Cathedral, Cornwall, depicting the South West coast path, which runs through Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. The 166 images encompass various techniques of embroidery and are A5-sized, giving them a precious, jewel-like feel. They are wonderful.

More information from the Truro Cathedral website:

“To celebrate its 50th anniversary and to showcase its members’ skills, West Country Embroiderers is exhibiting embroideries of the South West coast path from its start in Dorset, around Devon and Cornwall and finishing at the Devon/Somerset border on the north coast. Members from across the organisation have embroidered 166 panels to illustrate landmarks along the path, using any stitching technique they wish. The A5-sized vertically worked embroideries are unframed, but displayed consecutively so that the viewer ‘walks’ the coast path. A stitched map of the Coastline is included and panels marking the county borders have also been inserted.

This topic was chosen as the Coast Path links the 3 counties of WCE, a not-for-profit organisation established in 1973 to promote the skills and knowledge of all forms of textile work across the counties of Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.”

The exhibition runs until Sunday 21st May then tours Dorset Arts and Crafts Association in August and The Gallery Upstairs in Poole in October.
