My Michigan

I have been to the States, but never to Michigan, an Indian word meaning large lake. My only impression of it is from Sufjan Stevens’ wonderful 2003 album Michigan and, now, My Michigan by Gwen Frostic (1906-2001), a slim book of poetry and block prints published in 1957. Frostic was a lifetime resident of Michigan, a precocious artist with an entrepreneurial spirit, despite suffering from a debilitating disease similar to celebral palsey.
