Heartlands Diaspora Gardens in infrared

DSC_0017.jpg

The Heartlands complex in Pool, Cornwall, has a fabulous Diaspora Garden telling the story of Cornish migration through plants and trees. Each themed section features flora relevant to a far-flung country Cornish miners travelled to and worked in: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, North and South America.

There are several ways to create infrared photography. The photos in my book Welcome to St. Decay were produced using a converted infrared camera. The photo above was made differently, using an infrared filter attached to a regular DSLR camera. The filter is so dark, an exposure time of some 10 seconds is required, hence the ghost-like blurred effect of some of the leaves – that be the wind blowing.
