A Fragile Planet at the Royal Cornwall Museum
Running until 24 December at the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro is Fragile Planet, a wonderful exhibition of watercolours by Cornish artist Tony Foster.
Foster has travelled throughout the world to remote locations, often going by bike or boat to reach his destination. He has painted every kind of environment, from the Arctic and the desert to the jungle and the mountains. He doesn’t work from photos or sketches but in plein air, often camping for weeks at a time in the wilderness to complete a six foot painting.
The exhibition contains an amazing array of landscapes but comes with an environmental warning – many of the places Foster has painted over the years have now been irreversibly damaged or destroyed, by climate change or humankind. The exhibition also attempts to show a positive side, highlighting action being taken by charities around the world to prevent climate change.
